A cry for mercy in the judgement, and for grace now.

p. HEAR my prayer O Lord, and consider mỹ dësíre : Hearken unto me for Thy truth and righteousness' sâke -. 2 And enter not into judgement with Thy servant : For in Thy sight shall no man living be justified.

3 For the enemy hath persecuted my soul; he hath smitten my life down to the ground: He hath laid me in the darkness, as the men that have been lóng dèad.

4 Therefore is my spirit vexed within me : And my heartwithin-me ïs dês-olate.

5 cr. Yet do I remember the time past; I muse upon all Thy wórks: Yea, I exercise myself in the works of Thý hands.

6 I stretch forth my hands untö Thée : My soul gaspeth unto Thee as a thirst-y-land.

A cry for grace to resist temptation.

7 p. Hear me O Lord, and that soon, for my spirit waxeth fáint: Hide not Thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the *pît -.

8 O let me hear Thy loving-kindness betimes in the morning, for in Thee is mÿ trúst: Shew thou me the way that I should walk in, for I lift up my soul untö Thêe ---.

9 Deliver me O Lord, from mine enemies: For I flee unto Thee to híde mè.

10 Teach me to do the thing that pleaseth Thee, for Thou art mỹ Gód: Let Thy loving Spirit lead me forth into the land öf right-eousness.

11 Quicken me O Lord, for Thy Name's sake : And for Thy righteousness' sake. bring my soul out of trouble.

12 And of Thy goodness. slay mine én emies: And destroy all them that vex my soul; (sl.) for I am Thy sêrvant.

Yea, no longer a bondservant, but a son in Christ Jesus.

The fourth Penitential Psalm.

The cry of one who feels that he has grievously fallen from grace.

pp. HÄVE | mercy upon me O God, after Thỷ great good-ness: According to the multitude of Thy mercies. do away mine öffences.

2 Wash me throughly from my wickedness: And cleanse me fröm mỹ sîn -.

3 For I acknowledge my faults: And my sin is ėvėr bëfôre me.

4 Against Thee only have I sinned, and done this evil ïn Thy sight: That Thou mightest be justified in Thy saying, and clear *when Thou art judged.

5 Behold, I was shapen in wickedness: And in sin hath my mother cönceived-me.

6 But lo, Thou requirest truth in the inward parts: And shalt make me to understand wisdom secretly.

7 cr. Thou shalt *purge me with hyssop, and I shall be cléan : Thou shalt wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow -.

8 Thou shalt make me hear of joy and gladness: That the bones, which Thou hast broken, måy rėjôice -.

We are standing to-day on Calvary with the Crucified before our eyes, and repeating to ourselves His dying words.

The darkness and desolation. Thus crieth Jesus from His Cross
